How to connect your home to the cable network?
Is your home not connected yet to the cable network in the street? Then you'll have to connect your home to a termination point with a distribution cable. Who does what exactly, will be explained step by step in the video or cable brochure.

1. Look for the closest termination point
There are 3 types of termination points: in a grey box, on a pole or on a facade.
Look for the closest termination point. It's either located on your side of the street or on the other side.
- Is it located on the other side of the street? Excavation work is required on the public domain. We'll send you a personalised quote. Prefer to avoid any excavation work? Please contact us and we will look for a personalised solution.
- Is it located on your side of the street? You buy the distribution cable and you do all the necessary preparation yourself. The BASE technician will take care of the rest.
2. Prepare the distribution cable
Have you found the right termination point? You buy the entire distribution cable up to the drop cable termination point and lay the part on your property yourself. We take care of the rest.
Important: from the connection of the distribution cable to the network, you automatically and irrevocably transfer ownership of the distribution cable to the relevant network supplier.
Determine the length of the distribution cable
The length of the cable determines which types of distribution cable you need to use. For this, measure the distance from your home to the closest termination point. In the cable brochure we explain how to measure the distance exactly, and which cable you'll need.
Lay out the cable on your property
What's the closest termination point?
- On a facade: carry out the drilling work and put the cable on its definite spot. The technician will take care of the connection.
- On a pole: a technician will assess the situation on the spot. You don't need to be home. We will contact you afterwards for further information.
- In a grey box: the cable will enter your home underground. Dig a trench in your front yard and put the distribution cable in a conduit pipe. Carry out the drilling work and put the cable on its definite spot. The technician will take care of the connection.

3. Determine where the basic configuration needs to go
You'll also need to think about the placement of your basic set up (the network interface unit and modem). After the technician has finished your connection, they will place the basic set-up where your distribution cable enters yor home. Please keep the following in mind:
- enough free space on the wall: at least 40 x 50 centimetres;
- at least 3 earthed mains outlets;
- sufficient space and light for the technician
