Installing BASE Internet and TV: who does what?

Depending on your address and connection, two installation options may be available:

  • You install it yourself.
  • We install it for you.

When you order BASE Internet (online, by phone or in a BASE shop), we check whether your address can be connected to the network.

Is your address ready to be connected?
Then we choose self-installation (free of charge). We deliver your equipment (modem and/or TV box) to your home, and in just a few simple steps you can install your services yourself, whenever you like.

Is your address not immediately ready to be connected?
Then a technician visit is required. If additional cable connection services are needed, the relevant one-time fees may apply.

If you can choose between self-installation (free) and installation by a technician, and you prefer that we do it for you, you’ll pay €59 for the technician installation.

What are your options?

If a distribution cable is needed between the street and your home, you have two options:

  • Cable Access
Buy the distribution cable yourself and make the necessary preparations before the appointment. Our technician will then connect your home to the cable network. Find out more about the cable network connection.
  • Cable Access + Street-to-Home service
Choose our optional Street-to-Home service. If the situation allows it, our technician will bring and install the distribution cable for you. Find all the legal and commercial conditions in our Street-to-Home service's FAQ.

What do you need to prepare before the appointment?

  • A distribution cable, if you choose Cable Access only
  • A free wall space of at least 40 × 50 cm, where the distribution cable enters your home
  • 3 grounded power sockets
  • A dry and accessible installation area, not in a crawl space or a humid room such as a bathroom, for safety reasons
  • No more than 2 metres between the modem and the network interface unit (NIU). They should be placed close to each other.
  • Make sure at least one adult is at home for the entire appointment.

What does the technician do?

  • Installs your modem and network interface unit (NIU).
  • Connects the distribution cable to the NIU.
  • Checks the distribution cables and installed wall sockets, and replaces them if necessary.
  • Tests the speed of your internet connection at the modem.
  • Installs the BASE TV box (if you opted for this).
  • Installs the Wi-Fi boosters (if you opted for these).

Good to know

The technician connects up to 4 UTP cables where needed, each up to 25 metres long. Need more? Then you’ll need to provide the extra UTP cables yourself.
