Installing BASE Internet and TV: who does what?

Depending on your address and connection, two installation options may be available:

  • You install it yourself.
  • We install it for you.

When you order BASE Internet (online, by phone or in a BASE shop), we check whether your address can be connected to the network.

Is your address ready to be connected?
Then we choose self-installation (free of charge). We deliver your equipment (modem and/or TV box) to your home, and in just a few simple steps you can install your services yourself, whenever you like.

Is your address not immediately ready to be connected?
Then a technician visit is required. We'll send a technician free of charge.

If you can choose between self-installation (free) and installation by a technician, and you prefer that we do it for you, you’ll pay €59 for the technician installation.

Our technician does most of the work for you, but you’ll still need to make a few preparations.

What do you need to provide for the technician?

  • A distribution cable
  • A free wall space of at least 40 × 50 cm, where the distribution cable enters your home
  • 3 grounded power sockets
  • Not in a crawl space or a humid room (e.g. bathroom), for safety reasons
  • The distance between the modem and the network distributor must be no more than 2 metres. They should be placed close to each other.
  • Stay at home for the appointment and make sure at least one adult is present.

What does the technician do?

  • Installs your modem and network interface unit (NIU).
  • Connects the drop cable and coax cable to the NIU.
  • Checks the coax cables and installed wall sockets, and replaces them if necessary.
  • Tests the speed of your internet connection at the modem.
  • Installs the BASE TV box (if you opted for this).
  • Installs the wifi boosters (if you opted for these).

Good to know

The technician connects up to 4 UTP cables where needed, each up to 25 metres long. Need more? Then you’ll need to provide the extra UTP cables yourself.
