What is SMS spam and what can I do about it?

Have you received an SMS from an unknown sender, and does the content look suspicious? Then it may be spam. Usually the spammer obtained your number from a database without authorization or they are sending messages to random numbers.

Tip: Only give your mobile number to people you can trust to prevent spam messages.

Examples of fake advertising messages
  • ‘If you send this message to 12 people, you will get 650 free text messages.’
  • ‘Congratulations! You are today's daily winner in the Netherlands! Go to -site- to claim your prize. You have 24 hours to collect your prize.’

You usually receive this kind of message from a friend or acquaintance who received the message from someone else. So every customer is a link in the chain, spreading false information. Please don't resend spam messages like these.
