  • what is Android?

    Android is an OS developed by the Open Handset Alliance for Google, and the point was to make it truly open. Indeed, there's nigh nothing you can't do with a phone that's on the Android Platform, you can really tailor it to your interests: you can swap out the phone's homescreen, shape up the style of the dialer or any of the applications to your liking. And you can even instruct your phone to use your favorite photo viewing application to handle the viewing of all your photos.

    Following the success of the Android OS, Google created Android Market, an application store that gathers applications from different companies and of different purposes. Only about 40% of those applications are paying, as opposed to other application stores such as Apple's or BlackBerry's where only about 30% of the applications are free.

    Windows Phone 7 is the latest version of the Windows Mobile operating system developed by Microsoft. This OS is currently used in smartphones of very well-known brands, such as HTC, Samsung, LG and Dell.

    Just as Apple and Android developed their own online software store, Windows Phone Marketplace is the one developed by Microsoft for downloading applications and games for Windows Mobile Phones.

    While Apple does not permit its OS to run in third-party hardware, the Apple's Apps Store offers more than 300,000 applications to download on your device.
