  • what is a smartphone?

    There is no precise definition of what a smartphone is. The term was made up for mobile phones that make it easier to use all their features.

    Indeed, nowadays regular mobile phones enable you to call, text, send and receive e-mails, surf the Internet, take pictures, manage your calendar…

    The purpose of a smartphone is actually to make these tasks easier:

    • they have a different shape that makes it more practical to write e-mails or a text messages
    • very often, they even have an AZERTY or a QWERTY keyboard that resembles a computer keyboard and enables you to type faster
    • they have a bigger screen so that it is nicer to surf the Internet and view documents or pictures
    • they have more powerful softwares thanks to which your connection to the Internet is faster

    smartphones have particular operating systems (OS – the underlying software package powering your phone) that define how the device works, how user-friendly it is and what kind of softwares can be installed on it, on top of those originally installed: applications for business purposes, games or even applications that turn your smartphone into a TV remote control, an instant messaging device or even a wine counsellor!

    Also called "mobile apps", they are applications that run on smartphones and other mobile phones. Mobile apps are most commonly used to help users connect to websites generally accessed on desktops or laptops. It can be a mobile website bookmarking utility, a mobile-based instant messaging client for mobile (like Gmail or Facebook) or many other applications.

  • so, do I need a smartphone?

    • Do you often connect to the Internet on your mobile phone and wish it were faster?
    • Do you need to write e-mails or check out documents at all times?
    • Do you wish you could find an application to ease the use of your mobile phone or complete its features?

    Then it's probably time to buy a smartphone!
